In addition to the exercise below, I wanted to check in with you via this short video posted on my Web Site.
The purpose of this exercise is to help you to relax your body, decrease tension, and brace patterns associated with pain. Diaphragmatic breathing also helps to shift the autonomic nervous system from fight and flight response to a more peaceful one.
So now allow the breath to be more conscious and direct it into the belly on the inhale, pause and slowly allow your breath to exhale in a relaxed way without forcing it.
Perform it several minutes, allowing your body to become softer and softer on each exhale. On a top of your inhale, allow your belly to nicely puff out, hold it for 4 seconds, and exhale for 4 seconds.
Stay present, mentally engaged and aware with your breath.
With every exhale, let go more and sink deeper into the table.
I would encourage you to do this breathing exercise many times during the day, when you are on a phone, or at the store, and before falling asleep. If you wake up at night, and have a hard time sleeping, practice that breath and it will help you fall back asleep.
The more you practice diaphragmatic breathing and make it a new habit for yourself, you will notice to be more present, more grounded and more peaceful in your life.
